Here is one of my favorite shots from a short, informal photo session with my good friend and his beautiful daughters. In this solo portrait, I used an off-camera flash technique called High Speed Sync, where the camera uses fast shutter speeds and wide aperture to darken and “blur” the background (in this case, the midday sun which would ordinarily overpower the subject and create harsh, shadows on her face). Here, my friend’s stylish daughter is lit with a flash inside a softbox.
